CS Sfaxien 2 – 1 Étoile : We’re out of it

By: Houssem | Comments No Comments

If you ever wondered how a player could almost single-handedly crush his club’s title hopes, last Thursday’s game was probably a good illustration. The obvious culprit is of course Mejdi Ben Mohamed, aka Manga, who was picked to fill Ammar Jemal’s boots. His sloppy attempt at a clearance gave the Sfaxians a 2-0 lead in [...]

ESHS 0 – 1 ESS : Now we can relax and enjoy that Tunis derby …

By: Houssem | Comments 4 Comments

… and hope it will end goalless, with a lot of red cards and injuries on both sides. But seriously, the title run is all but over, and Étoile is looking like a decent contender again, although the remaining fixtures won’t be a walk in the park : a trip to relegation candidates Jendouba Sports, [...]

One win away from the final

By: Houssem | Comments 5 Comments

I won’t waste your time on discussing what happened at Kumasi during and after the 2-2 draw against Asante Kotoko. Mr. Codja was up to the expectations and lost control of the game, thus leading to a “break” during which many members of Étoile’s staff gave an interesting display of unsporting behaviour. Physiotherapist Anis Ben [...]

Al Merrikh 2 – 0 Étoile : Things just had to get exciting …

By: Houssem | Comments No Comments

After the 2-1 victory last week in Sousse, Étoile were – not really surprisingly – beaten by Al Merrikh in what could have been the decisive game of this group stage. I’m not one of those who ask for the coach’s head on a spear after such a defeat, but Decastel clearly has to rethink [...]

Not looking so bright without the million dinar man, are we ?

By: Houssem | Comments 2 Comments

Yesterday Étoile lost away to algerian side JS Kabylie on the second matchday of the CAF Confederation Cup group stage (a terribly boring 1-0). I don’t think there’s something that really deserves some big ranting, but the team didn’t show enough spirit to win this game.

Looking good !

By: Houssem | Comments 3 Comments

Week 2 of the tunisian LP 1, with a few interesting games, and a trip to Bizerte for Étoile du Sahel that ended up being more successful than anybody would have thought (honestly … 5-0 !). I didn’t watch the game since it came on Tunisie 21 and I need a bigger satellite dish to [...]

Étoile du Sahel 2 – 0 Asante Kotoko

By: Houssem | Comments 1 Comment

This man is currently earning the nickname “Tête d’or” (golden head) at Étoile du Sahel. We didn’t see a lot of the impressive pass play we got used to with last season’s team, but Étoile showed that it still has what it takes to be a “Grand d’Afrique” : effectiveness and the ability to control [...]

It could have been better

By: Houssem | Comments 4 Comments

A stupidly conceded free kick and a horrible lack of offensive awareness / luck have cost us 2 points at home, but the result is quite fair since CA got their share of goal chances.
The first thing that surprised everybody I guess, was Decastel’s starting formation :

Mathlouthi (GK), Ben Mansour (CB), Opara (ST), Yaken (RB), [...]
