Étoile du Sahel v. ASO Chlef Preview
By: Houssem | March 13th, 2009
This weekend will be a break from the league drama we’ve been enjoying lately, with the long awaited return to the only international competition that matters : the CAF Champions League. Étoile will host ASO Chlef, the 6th algerian side to face us in the CL. Our home record against our neighbors shows a 100% winning rate at home, so I’m not too worried about this one. The second leg should be harder though.
ASO Chlef are currently 6th of their league, 8 points behind leaders ES Setif with 10 games to go. They never made it past the round of 16 in this competition, and rely mostly on algerian players (only 3 foreigners in their current roster). Experience is definitely on our side.
The available players for this game are :
Goalkeepers : Mathlouthi, Bouderbala
Defenders : Felhi, Jemal, Ben Radhia, Bejaoui, Abdennour, Meriah
Midfielders : Tenniche, Ben Haj Frej, Nafkha, Mabrouk, Everson, Mosrati, Jebali
Forwards : Bukhari, Ben Dhifallah, Tembo
1. Come Backs : Mathlouthi is finally fit, and should start the game after Bouderbala did great job filling his shoes. Mosrati is also available again, but I think it’s too soon to include him in the starting XI. Having him on the bench adds a valuable tactical option.
2. The Missing : Tarek Ziadi is cup tied for the first part of the competition, which should bring us back to the 4-4-2 formation. Too bad for a striker who saved our asses more than once this season.
We all know the drill for this one : Win without conceding, and control the game in the return leg. I believe we are experienced enough for this task. It would be a nice start to the competition if we can get 3 goals or more tomorrow.
The other tunisian team entering this competition will of course be Club Africain, who will also be playing their first game at home against Mali’s Djoliba AC, the same thing they had a hard time qualifiying against last year. Good luck to them, cause it’s about keeping our red flag flying high.
As a reminder : you’ll be able to follow a liveblog for this fixture here, I’ll enjoy having you around !

Houssem, can you tell me what’s the best way to watch this game on the internet? Is it through power-ess.com? It does not always work for me for some reason. I have a much easier time watching Esperance or CSS games. Any ideas? I think it will be on TV7, but where I live, I will not get to see it until 6 or 7 hours later. Thanks.

Hey Rachid, I usually watch it on the power-ess.com live stream, but there are several channels that don’t all get activated right away. I’ll post a link on the liveblog as soon as I have a working one.
