Jendouba Sports v. Étoile du Sahel Highlights And Some Ranting

By: Houssem | March 9th, 2009

I finally got my hands on the Hannibal TV highlights. HTV made it their event of the day after Tunis 7 didn’t broadcast the game after initially having it on the program. Apparently, the transmission van didn’t make it to Jendouba. Seriously ? I don’t think it’s suitable for a public TV network that feeds on government money, gets a share on every electrical bill and plagues us with ads before and during every interesting broadcast (= football games and Dimanche Sport). I’m sure Mr. Ganzoui and his mates will have a funny excuse for us tonight. I’m almost glad that Cactus Prod bought the rights to Dimanche Sport starting from next season. Moez Ben Gharbia (ex HTV) will be in charge, and that will certainly bring some positive change. Back to the football : We scored after 20 seconds, then, from what the highlights tell me, we’ve been standing behind the ball all the time, while Jendouba had more than enough chances to win the game, but didn’t. Once again, we’re very lucky to bring back 3 points from a tricky away game, and we keep the pressure on CA and EST before today’s clashes with CSHL and ASK, respectively. Cudos to the lads and the staff for obviously planning this goal. The pitch wasn’t really appropriate for professional football anyway, that’s why tricking Jendouba to get this early lead was the best thing that could have happened. We are currently on top of the table, with a game more than EST and CA.

Jendouba Sports vs. Étoile du Sahel Highlights – MyVideo

I am especially unhappy about what some of our players did during and after the game. Why can’t Tarek Ziadi go off the pitch quietly ? There is no reason he should brag to the Jendouba supporters about the early goal. And then the saddest part of all. Ammar Jemal, international player, arguably one of the best defenders in the country, the league’s second best scorer, and a product of the ESS youth system lets some cheap provocation get to him and makes that gesture towards the Jendouba fans. Some guy tries to pick a fight with him after he gets out of the dressing room, and he can’t control himself again.  I don’t think this behaviour is appropriate for any professional athlete. The same Ammar Jemal was shown as a local kid’s role model a couple of weeks ago in Dimanche Sport. I hope there won’t be any serious consequences, because we really could do without suspensions with 4 games left. Then there was this thing with Gernot Rohr refusing to make an after-game statement because of some stuff that happened the day before the match. He told the HTV guy to “stop doing stupid stuff, respect the people and the clubs”. I don’t have any answers now, I’d be glad if you eventually could shed some light on this matter. Our next game will be a break from the league, and our first in this year’s CAF Champions League. We will be hosting algerian side ASO Chlef. More on that in midweek. I will most probably be giving liveblogging a try, so don’t forget to join in here during the game !

Ammar Jemal was provoked incessantly! It’s cheap, sensational journalism on the part of HTV to follow those exchanges! What the hell does that add, except possibly causing some harm to l’Etoile to deliberately benefit other clubs (we know who they are!)? A player should not be kept from celebrating his achievement. Anyway, we got our 3 points and that’s what’s most important. H. Lif handily beat CA today and that means we’re on top of CA once more and we should stay there until the finish line. We should be numero uno after next round because I expect USMo to beat Esperance and CSS to beat CA. As they say on the “retroviseur”, objects are much closer than they appear to be!! Vive ESS!

I agree Rachid, I just saw the rest of the footage on Dimanche Sport, and Ammar was indeed subject to an unusal amount of provocation, but again, this is no reason to burst out like he did. This way he’s only falling into the traps that the media always set. Anyway, I try to stick to the actual football, and forget the rest, because this is what it’s about after all. I’m much better off this way !

Ammar reacted on the insults from Jendouba. He just spitted he did not throw his boots!!

However we need to educate our players how to act, we only want them to be fighters on the pitch not outside. Let the Swa7lia supporters takecare of that, no worries :0)
