Sousse derby moved 20 km away

By: Houssem | February 26th, 2009

Do the people at the LNFP ever know what they’re doing ? Today, they decided to move the upcoming Sousse derby (ES Hammam-Sousse vs. Étoile du Sahel) from Hammam-Sousse’s Lahouar Stadium or Sousse’s Olympic Stadium to … Monastir ! Officially, ESHS wanted the game to be played at our stadium because of the terrible state their pitch was in after some heavy rain and a U21 friendly between Tunisia and Lybia. The League saw this as an attempt from Hammam-Sousse to generate more revenue by hosting the game in the bigger Olympic Stadium, and decided therefore to move the fixture to Monastir. This is punishing both teams, and ruining what could have been an interesting derby. I’m sure a lot of fans will make the trip, but it certainly won’t be the same playing in a town where everybody supports another team. And let’s not forget how every small team in Tunis can play games in Rades and score some massive cash thanks to the CA and EST supporters.
