Worst Week Ever …
By: Houssem | April 20th, 2009
… as we must settle for another season without any silverware. After losing any chance to threaten Espérance in the league, we got defeated by them in the cup quarter final. I actually didn’t think our game could get any uglier after the CSS game, but they managed to prove me wrong ! No midfield whatsoever, only long balls from Felhi to Ziadi, Meriah as pathetic as ever as a left winger – hey, if Rohr thinks Meriah was NEVER made to be a defender, he must be right ! To sum it up, the defeat against Espérance was pretty inevitable. That goal was going in no matter what, because our defenders left 3 men unmarked on a set piece. Just brilliant.
Right after that game, I could rejoice at some reports on Rohr getting the sack, but apparently it was just a rumour. I’ve also heard that the players “insisted” he should be maintained, and threatened not to come to training sessions anymore. Of course ! Who would want to let a trainer like that go away ? Kids in pre-school have heavier schedules than Étoile players, and nobody else would give them so much praise or look for excuses in their place after each crappy performance. But I’m one of hundreds of thousands of fans who want to see their team play football and at least TRY to win. I don’t think sacking another coach will change anything. It’s really all about the players, their mentality, their attitude. We need to get rid of some old faces, teach the younger ones like Ammar Jemal some humility, especially after he had another outburst after angry Étoile fans shouted at him after the cup match.
This team is only a shadow of the one that made the Sahel believe in winning again. I’m not too optimistic about the African Champions League now, but the final is in december, we’ll have time and a transfer window to hopefully get there. The management and the coaching staff have to start thinking about next year, because a third season with no domestic titles would be just unbearable.

Houssem, you sound pretty pissed off! When you think of it, what is the significance of the “Coupe de Tunisie”? I mean as far as guaging readiness or how good a team is. Not much, really. The only serious game CSS for example played so far is against Beja! Don’t get me wrong, there is lots to be upset about, but I think better days are ahead, especially if Rohr is gone. He’s not what l’Etoile needs right now. I’ve read some place that Lotfi Rhim is a potential replacement. I believe a Tunisian coach will do the trick. What if CA and EST both lose and l’Etoile wins on Thursday? That’s what I’m hoping would happen and then it’ll be back to square one, again. There is still a flicker of hope. But, even if that does not happen, we still have the group phase in the Championsleague to work on our deficiencies and build a great team. We need to be supportive no matter what!!!

well I’m not upset at loosing the cup per se, but you know how bad losing against the Mkach5a is ! Plus we didn’t look this harmless for ages. You’re right about the league, anything can still happens, although I don’t trust the Baklawa to stand up against CA, but you never know.
I’ll be glad if Rohr leaves in May, so that a tunisian (Rhim is a possibility yes, there’s also Ghrairi) coach can take over and change things.Posted from
